Inez Tobin is a highly qualified gem and jewellery consultant. She is part of a very strong team that oversees the jewellery sales and valuations at Elstob & Elstob and contributes a huge amount of experience and expertise.
After graduating with a BA (Hons) from Trinity College Dublin in the History of Art and French, Inez undertook a Master’s degree in the History of Art & Art World Practice, which was awarded by Christie’s Education in conjunction with the University of Glasgow. She then went on to study Gemmology at the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and became a Fellow (FGA) in 2017. This prestigious membership status is only awarded to those who have shown their commitment to continued professional development within the industry and agreed to adhere to their by-laws and code of practice.
During her career, Inez has worked in administerial roles at Whyte’s (a fine art and collectables auctioneers in Dublin) and at Bonham’s. When she became more specialised in jewellery, she went on to work for an antique and vintage jewellery dealer in Hatton Garden, followed by Christie’s where she was part of their Jewellery Private Sales team. She was also a jewellery specialist at Chiswick Auctions.
Whilst Inez is interested in all forms of antique and vintage jewellery, she particularly loves Revivalist jewellery from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The subject of her Master’s thesis was Egyptian themes in Art Deco jewellery, when she focused on the discovery of Tutankhamun and the influence of this on jewellery of the period.
