Widely acknowledged as one of the North of England’s leading authorities on wine, Peter Hopkins’ career is packed with an astonishing breadth and depth of experience and knowledge.
It started when he became the youngest person to pass the WSET Diploma (Wines and Spirits Education Trust – the industry’s official education body) and his many academic achievements include a prestigious Moet and Chandon Champagne Scholarship. Other accolades have followed, not least the National title of ‘UK Sommelier of the Year’, and he has also acted as an inspector for the consumers’ association Which?
His vast depth of knowledge and expertise is underpinned by plenty of hands-on experience within the industry. He has lived and worked in many of the major wine producing regions of France, Germany, Spain, Portugal and South Africa, and has many years under his belt as a wine merchant, restaurateur and wine bar owner.
Known for his relaxed and approachable style, Peter readily shares this experience with other enthusiasts and connoisseurs, and lectures extensively on wine around the country. He also runs various wine appreciation classes and his vineyard tours and specialist wine events are always in high demand.
For over 25 years, Peter has acted as an independent wine valuation and assessment consultant and has considerable experience in buying and selling wine at auction, which he is keen to share with Elstob & Elstob clients.
