Richard Edwards brings to Elstob & Elstob a vast amount of expertise and talent, the result of a long and distinguished career in the antiques industry with experience of both international and regional auction houses.
A Law graduate from the University of Edinburgh, Richard spent a number of years in London as a professional in the property market before undertaking a course with Christie's validated by the Royal Society of Arts. He then moved to New York to join Sotheby's as a specialist in the European Works of Art Department, where he was involved in sourcing, valuing and cataloguing pieces of the very highest quality.
A desire to broaden his base of expertise resulted in a move to Doyle, also in New York, where he was a general appraiser preparing valuations of entire house contents as well as cataloguing furniture, silver and porcelain for general and specialist auctions. It was during this time that he handled sales for several Hollywood celebrities and prominent New Yorkers.
Upon returning to the UK, Richard joined Addisons of Barnard Castle as Senior Auctioneer. Here he built up a wealth of experience derived from an enormously wide range of lots that included the unearthing of a rare Chippendale desk!
Richard is pleased to offer impartial advice to clients on every aspect of valuing, sourcing, buying and selling fine and decorative arts and antiques.
