A RARE 1847 PATTERN LIGHT CAVALRY SWORD OF THE 17TH LANCERS

made by Firmin & Son, Strand London, three bar hilt with wire-bound fishskin grip, straight single edged, acid etched with a crowned VR royal cypher, and crowned crossed lancers XVII LANCERS surrounded by scrolling foliage. 101.5cm long overall

Carried by Lieutenant John Chadwick, a troop leader in the charge at Balaclava. His medal was sold by Dix Noonan Webb, both items from the family.
