We want to make buying at auction as enjoyable and straight forward as possible and are more than happy to talk you through the auction process. In this section, we aim to cover some of the basics but please do get in touch if you need any more information or advice.
Our auction catalogues will be published approximately two weeks in advance of a sale and will also be available to view online before the sale. To request a copy, please call 01677 333003 or email email@example.com
Our sales will be available to view approximately two days prior to the auction either at Bedale Hall or another specified location. Full details will be published with the relevant sale catalogue.
We will be please to give condition reports and extra images on any lot wherever possible. These are free of charge and are an expert opinion on the age, condition and authenticity of an item.
Please register at the office in advance of the auction, where you will receive a unique number with which to bid. You will need a form of photo ID such as a passport or driver’s license. Take your seat in the saleroom and when you wish to bid, raise your number in order to catch the auctioneer’s attention.
This can be done via the website, by telephone, by email or in person at our office. Simply state the highest price you would like to pay for the lot and we will purchase it for you at the lowest price possible, while taking the reserve price and any other bids into account. Commission bids must be submitted before the start of the sale.
If you let us know in advance of the sale which lots you are interested in then we can call you in time to bid through one of our saleroom representatives. Telephone lines must be booked by close of business on the day before the sale and are offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
You can register online at the-saleroom.com, invaluable.com or liveauctioneers.com to bid online as the sale is taking place. This ‘live’ service enables you to watch and hear the auction online. An additional 5% plus VAT will be charged to use this facility.
This is the approximate hammer price that a lot is expected to achieve.
This is the price achieved at auction. In addition, there will be a buyer’s premium charge at 20%. VAT will be added to the buyer’s premium.
Sale results will be posted on our website shortly after the auction has taken place. If your bid has been successful an invoice will be sent via email or post. You can also telephone us to check if your bid has been successful.
There is a buyer’s premium of 20% plus VAT (totalling 24%) on the hammer price. For example:
Hammer price - £100
Premium at 20% = £20
VAT at 20% of £4
Total price – £124
Payment is due immediately after the auction in pounds sterling. If it is the first time you have purchased anything with us then we will require your name and address. Funds will need to be cleared before purchases can be released.
Payments can be made via bank transfer, cheque or debit and credit cards.
