Clothing and textiles are a unique expression of our style and personality and, as such, give a fascinating insight into the lives of our ancestors as well as reflecting the social trends of the time. From the strict corsetry of the Edwardians through to the decadence of the 1920’s flapper dresses, the heady flower power of the 1960’s and the platform and flares of the psychedelic 1970’s, this is a diverse and exciting area in which to both collect and indulge!
Elstob & Elstob has a department dedicated to the sale of costume, accessories and textiles. It handles a wide range of antique and contemporary items from quilts and fine household linens, samplers and embroidery to clothes and accessories from designers such as Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Horrockses.
We cater for both specialist collectors and individuals looking for wearable vintage fashion pieces. If you have a particular style or period that you are interested in buying then please do get in touch. We also welcome both small and large consignments for our sales.

The department is led by antique textiles specialist and author Jessica Aldred, who is also an expert embroiderer and teacher. Indeed, one of Jessica’s many claims to fame is that she was part of the team that embroidered the wedding dress and veil for the Duchess of Cambridge.
Jessica’s knowledge of vintage fashion has been built up over a career that has taken in positions within the costume department of the Royal Opera House and the V&A Museum in London, and she is highly knowledgeable and passionate about all things to do with design and textiles. She is always delighted to share her skills and expertise with our clients.
