SELLING AT AUCTION

If you are thinking of selling an item (either singly or as a collection), we are more than happy to help. With our considerable expertise in the market and expert team of valuers, we are confident that we can help you realise the best possible prices for your possessions.

The information below may answer some commonly asked questions, but please contact us for further details or clarification.

Why choose us?

It used to be that the larger city-based auction houses automatically achieved the highest prices. This is no longer the case, and in today’s online market, it is possible to reach all corners of the globe via the Internet and other media outlets.

We exploit these opportunities to the full, and with our multi-media marketing skills and online auction platforms, we ensure that objects are put in front of the largest and most appropriate audiences to ensure the best possible sale results.

Elstob Auctioneers is also keen to operate transparently and straightforwardly, making the buying and selling process easier for clients with no additional fees or hidden extras, making us one of the most competitive fine art and antique auction houses in the region.

Free appraisals

You can call into our Ripon office to obtain a free, no-obligation valuation. We can also visit you at your home or business premises if this is more convenient or for valuing larger items or collections. For an online valuation, click here.

Price estimates

Following our specialist valuation, we will suggest a price estimate based on current market prices and trends. You may also wish to agree on a reserve price before the sale. This guarantees a minimum price for your item.

Getting your item to the saleroom

If you cannot deliver your item to our saleroom, we can help arrange the collection of your item. Please get in touch with us for more details about this service.

Auction

Your item will be entered into the most appropriate auction. If it sells, you will be notified of the price and receive settlement statements and payment within twenty-one working days, as long as we have cleared payment from the buyer. All results will be available on our website shortly after the auction.

Should your item not sell, you can either re-offer it for inclusion at a future auction or collect it. If you choose to collect your lot, this should be done within 28 days.

Vendors’ fees

Our standard rate of commission is 15% plus VAT. We don't charge for unsold lots, lotting, insurance or photography.
